The Ghost of Christmas

Friday, January 5th, 2007

Problem: Unloved Christmas trees on the streets of Twickenham.

Solution: Richmond Council will collect your christmas tree for free.

Still better, you can use your christmas tree to pay for admission to the Botanical Gardens at Kew.

The Co-op Explained

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

I signed up as a member of the Co-op this evening.

It turns out that the Guardian isn’t the only big business in the UK which isn’t out to make money.

Our local ‘4-Square’ like store is part of the Co-op. This weeks revelation was, that in addition to providing excellent Thai curry ready meals and inventing ‘two for one’, the Co-op is actually a non profit organisation.

The idea is that the group is owned by it’s customers and run for the benefit of the customers.

Twickenham Rowing Club Geese
It’s official; deadly bird flu has arrived in Britian. Makes you glad you’re not a bird?

This is really rather good…

Guardian Unlimited provide the Prime Ministers questions time as a podcast.

It’s actually rather good. I laughed until I stopped.

On Tour – The Tideway

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

We spent the weekend rowing out of Putney on the Tideway, for the Remenham Head, a friendly between seven odd London clubs. This was my first time downstream of Barnes Bridge and Hammersmith Bridge.

It’s first time I’ve seen from Putney to Hammersmith from the Putnety end during daylight. It’s not as far as it had looked from the other side. Also to first time rowing up around the corner at Barnes. This corner is the major strategy piece in the Boat Race. One of the crews has to spend 5 odd minutes clinging onto the outside, if they draw the outside station.

Alright… that prepay power thing is starting to piss me off…

Plunged into darkness again…

How Stupid is this?

Friday, January 13th, 2006

The Guardian writes on an Inland Revenue crack down on off shore bank accounts.

What tipped them off? How about this:

  • Complete self assessment tax return, failing to declare interest from off shore accounts
  • Ask for any tax refund to be direct credited into said off shore bank accounts.

The mind boggles.

That’s the current headline on CNN. Enough said really.
